Schools programme
Gateshead Girls Rugby is committed to developing girls rugby
in the local community. We have coaches who are working with
Gateshead Council
in the promotion of girls rugby within the Active Sports programme.
Active Sports is a five year development programme organised
by Sport England,
the distributor of lottery funds to sport in England. It is
implemented in Tyne and Wear by Tyne
& Wear Sport.
There's little value in introducing girls to the game in school
if those who decide that it's the sport for them are not able
to continue with it. We recognise that schools are under pressure
to deliver many sports, for boys as well as girls, and may not
have the resources to continue providing girls rugby themselves.
Gateshead Girls Rugby fulfills an important role in providing
ongoing coaching and matches.
For information about any aspect of our schools programme,
please contact Gateshead Girls Rugby's Schools
Liaison Officer.
Rugby Development Officers
Our local Rugby Development Officers are also available to
help with the delivery of various community initiatives. The
RDOs are backed by the resources of the RFU
and the RFUW
and can provide assistance and information to help with the
development of rugby throughout the region. For information
about rugby development please contact the RFU Regional Development Officer (County Durham) or for girls' rugby contact the RFUW Partnership Development Officer.
For more general information about Girls Rugby in the Gateshead
MBC area, or any other rugby development issues in Gateshead,
please contact Tom
Knott , RFU Gateshead District Co-ordinator.
